Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What Roads are Closed + Diversions

The length of Down Road will be closed on Monday 1st May 2023 from Prospect Close to Cross Hands pub from 8am to 6pm. The only vehicle access allowed during this time will be for emergency vehicles & local residents. Each end of the road closure will be manned by marshalls who will be able to help.

Diversion signs will be out to divert cars along Church Road + Harcombe Hill / Dragon Road.

Parking - where can we park?

We have no car parks for the event, so unfortunately if you are coming by car, it will be parking on the roads. We will have cones out to avoid congestion at the junctions, please don't park where there are cones.
This year will be especially challenging with the A432 road closed over the M4 & no Iron Action May Day Fair.

So where can I park ?

We have secured parking at 2 local car parks:

  • Winterbourne Academy (sports centre, Flaxpits Ln BS36 1LA) between 9am & 6.30pm
  • Greenfield Centre (Park Ave BS36 1NJ) between 9am & 6.30pm

Please use these if at all possible.

Other local roads away from Down Road could be:

  • Hambrook, we would suggest Worrells Lane / Hambrook Common and walk up Mill Steps.
  • Winterbourne/George & Dragon try Dragon Rd / Harcombe Rd, but nowhere past the railway bridge.
  • Winterbourne/Duck pond head for Bradley Ave or Hicks Common Rd, avoid Harcombe Hill.
  • Badminton Rd up Down Rd. This will be very busy and limited on street parking here.

Do we have any disabled parking?

There is a small off-road Disabled Parking area available at the top of Down Road opposite Prospect Close. The marshalls at this 'Road Closed' point will be able to direct you to the parking spaces.

What toilet facilities do we provide?

There are toilets in both Church Halls + Cross Hands pub.

Where can I find out what's happening on Monday?

Paper copies of the programme will be available + larger paper copies on Down Road on the Monday.  We will provide a link to the programme on our home page closer to the date.

Cash or Card ?

Its really dependent upon each stall holder, some will have card machines, however cash is still the only method of payment for some of our smaller stalls, so please bring some pocket money

Can I book a stall for the day?

Yes, we welcome small businesses & charities selling their crafts and food. We are now full for 2024, but if you'd like details for next year, please email winterbournedowncarnival@gmail.com  OR use the contacts page HERE

When can stalls setup?

Stall holders will only be allowed to setup their stalls from 8am, when the road will be closed. Prior to this, traffic will still zoom through, causing a safety risk to all. We will not put the tables out until this time.

Pet provision

We welcome well behaved dogs on a lead to our event. We will have dog bowls with water situated along Down Road for them to have a drink.
